Even though Sara has been singing
her entire life, she discovered her love for music
at the age of 14 when she joined a mixed choir as a
freshman in high school. As a sophomore, she was accepted
into the top award-winning Concert Choir and she continued
to sing in this choir along with two other audition-only
choirs, Chamber and Show, as a soloist, for the remainder
of her high school years. These years really shaped
her voice and inspired confidence. Sara appreciates
the special years she was taught by the amazing choir
director at Temecula Valley High School, Mr. Dean Aamodt,
crediting him with teaching her how to develop not
only her voice, but also her passion for music. Sara
will remember him always.
After graduation in 2004, Sara
attended an enjoyable first year of college at BYU-Idaho
where she met people who would become life-long friends.
Sara continued singing by joining the University
Choir and the audition-only Women's Choir. Late in
her first semester, her mom, who says she is Sara's
biggest fan, called from Southern California and
told her about a vocal competition to record on Jenny
Phillips' 2006 Young Women's album in Utah. Sara
flew to Salt Lake City and competed with 130 girls
for the chance to record "I Call Your Name" on
Jenny's Arise and Shine Forth album. Sara won the
competition, was chosen to record the song and felt
very honored to have her picture put on the cover
of the CD. Sara was then invited to join the prestigious
Jenny Phillips' Fireside Group and it was here that
she realized she had found the right path. She moved
to Provo, Utah, in October of 2005 to sing with the
group. Once again, Sara made life-long friends and
had unforgettable experiences as she traveled with
Jenny and the group as a soloist to many states in
the U.S. They also had the opportunity to tour Australia,
New Zealand and Samoa, giving service through song
and action. Through her association with Jenny, whom
she considers a mentor, Sara has learned many things
and will be forever thankful to Jenny for all her
love and support.
After being in the Fireside Group
a little over a year, arranger and producer Greg Hansen
was producing the LDS play "Finding Freedom" and
he asked to hear some of Sara's music. He hired Sara
to record as the main female character. She was thrilled
to be working with Greg, whom she knew as impressive,
talented and kind by reputation. After hitting it off
during the recording of the play, they began to discuss
Sara's options and realized making an album of her
own was the right decision. It has been great fun
to
work with Greg, Steve Lerud and the many talented musicians
and songwriters who have helped bring out the best
in Sara for her debut album.
